Ethics and Publication Malpractice Policy
nCmY is committed to upholding international standards of publication ethics and takes all possible measures against any publication malpractices. Our ethics policies are based on Elsevier recommendations and follow the COPE guidelines, the Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors and the Code of Conduct for Journal Publishers.
The Journal complies with French legislation regulating copyright and mass communications. The Journal is aware of the implications of the EU Code of Practice on Transparency of AI-generated Content
https://digital-strategy.ec.europa.eu/en/policies/code-practice-ai-generated-content
and asks authors to indicate any use of AI in the preparation of articles submitted to the journal.
Conformity to standards of ethical behaviour is therefore expected of all parties: Authors, Editors, Reviewers, and the Journal Director. The opinions expressed in the articles of the journal are the sole responsibility of their author(s).
Authors
1. nCmY Articles
Peer Review
nCmY Authors should accept that if their articles are considered as suitable for publication, they will be submitted for double-blind peer-review by at least one reviewer who is expert in the field.
If the Editors consider a research article submitted to them to be suitable for publication in nCmY, they will send it for double-blind peer-review by at least one reviewer who is expert in the field.
They should present an accurate account of the work performed as well as an objective discussion of its significance. Underlying data should be represented accurately in the article. An article should contain sufficient detail and references to permit others to replicate the work. Fraudulent or knowingly inaccurate statements constitute unethical behaviour and are unacceptable.
Authors may be asked to provide the sources in connection with an article for editorial review, and should be prepared to provide public access to such data, if practicable, and should in any event be prepared to retain such sources for a reasonable time after publication.
Acknowledgement
Plagiarism in all its forms is unacceptable. The Authors should ensure that their work is entirely original, and that if the work and/or words of others have been used, this has been appropriately acknowledged. Authors should cite publications that have been influential in determining the nature of the reported work. Information obtained by private communication, correspondence or discussions with third parties should not be used without the express written consent of the correspondent source. Authors should communicate any use of AI in the preparation and composition of their article to the Director of the nCmY at the time of first submission. Submitting the same manuscript to more than one journal concurrently constitutes unethical publishing behaviour and is unacceptable.
Copies and Reproductions
Authors should ensure that their use of copies and reproductions is in conformity with French Law, under which any representation or reproduction, in whole or in part, made without the consent of the author, or his successors or assigns, is unlawful; the same applies to the translation, adaptation or transformation, arrangement or reproduction, by any art or process whatsoever (Law No. 92-597 of 1 July 1992, Article L. 122-4). Any form of representation or reproduction would therefore constitute an infringement of copyright, an offence punishable under Article 425 et seq. of the French Penal code.
Law no. 92-597 of 1 July 1992 only authorises, under the terms of paragraphs 2, 3.a-b, 4 of article L. 122-4, copies or reproductions strictly reserved for the private use of the copier and not intended for collective use, on the one hand, and, on the other hand, provided that the name of the author and the source are clearly indicated, analyses and short quotations for the purpose of example and illustration, press reviews, and finally, parody, pastiche and caricature, observing the rules of the genre.
Authorship
Authorship should be limited to those who have made a significant contribution to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the reported study. All those who have made significant contributions should be listed as Co-Authors. Where there are others who have participated in certain substantive aspects of the research, they should be acknowledged or listed as contributors. The corresponding Author should ensure that all appropriate Co-Authors and no inappropriate Co-Authors are included on the article, and that all Co-Authors have seen and approved the final version of the article and have agreed to its submission for publication.
Support and Conflicting Interests
All Authors should disclose in their manuscript any financial or other substantive conflict of interest that might be construed to influence the results or interpretation of their manuscript. When an Author discovers a significant error or inaccuracy in his/her own published work, it is the Author’s obligation to promptly notify the Editors and cooperate with them to retract or correct the article.
2. nCmY news items
nCmY news items (e.g. thesis abstracts, book reviews, etc.) will not be peer-reviewed, but will be passed to an appropriate Editor for full editorial review.
Review articles should be accurate, objective and comprehensive, while editorial ‘opinion’ or perspective pieces should be clearly identified as such.
3. nCmY translations
nCmY translations that are of texts which were published earlier will not be submitted to external reviewer(s) as their content has already been evaluated. Additions to the original text, which provide more context or clarifications are, nonetheless, welcome.
Editors
nCmY Editors are the Journal’s Director and the members of the Editorial Committee. They have complete responsibility and authority to reject or accept an article. They should evaluate manuscripts exclusively on the basis of their academic merit without regard to race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, citizenship, or political philosophy of the Authors. The decision to publish an article will be taken on the base of obligatory double-blind peer review of the manuscript.
Contributions that are not peer-reviewed (e.g. thesis abstracts, articles and book reviews, and translations) will undergo full editorial review by at least one Editor.
Editors should require all contributors to disclose relevant competing interests and publish corrections if conflicts of interest are revealed after publication. In cases where a conflict of interest is discovered after the article is published, a corresponding correction (erratum) must be published in the next issue. An Editor should take reasonably responsive measures when ethical complaints have been presented concerning a submitted manuscript or published article. Every reported act of unethical publishing behaviour must be investigated, even if it is discovered long after publication. If the complaint is upheld, a correction, retraction, expression of concern, or erratum, should be published.
Confidentiality
The Editors must not disclose any information about a submitted manuscript to anyone other than the corresponding Author, Reviewers, potential Reviewers, or other editorial Advisers, as appropriate. Editors should recuse themselves from considering manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest resulting from competitive, collaborative, or other relationships or connections with any of the Authors, companies, or institutions connected to the articles.
Unpublished materials disclosed in a submitted manuscript must not be used in an Editor’s own research without the express written consent of the Author.
Disclosure
Editors must not disclose any information about a submitted manuscript to anyone other than the corresponding Author, Reviewers, potential Reviewers, and other editorial Advisers, as appropriate.
Reviewers
nCmY Reviewers are qualified experts in their field.
Reviews should be conducted objectively, and observations should be formulated clearly with supporting arguments, so that Authors can use them for improving the article. A Reviewer should notify the Editors of any substantial similarity or overlap between the manuscript under consideration and any other manuscript (published or unpublished) of which they have personal knowledge. Personal criticism of the Author is inappropriate.
Any selected Referee who feels unqualified to review the research reported in a manuscript or knows that its prompt review will be impossible should notify the Editors and excuse himself from the review process. Reviewers should not consider manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest resulting from competitive, collaborative, or other relationships or connections with any of the Authors, companies, or institutions connected to the articles.
Confidentiality
The Reviewer’s personal data are not disclosed to the Authors. This guarantees unbiased reviews and assures the freedom to make critical comments concerning the content of the articles submitted for publication. All manuscripts received for review must be treated as confidential documents. They must not be shown to or discussed with others except as authorised by the Editors. Privileged information or ideas obtained through peer review must be kept confidential and not used for personal advantage.
Handling Potential Conflicts of Interest
To ensure the highest standards of objectivity, the Journal implements a rigorous ‘firewall’ policy for manuscripts authored by editorial staff. Journal’s members may publish in the Journal, but they are completely excluded from the processing of their own work. All such articles undergo the same double-blind peer review process as any other submission.
Journal Director
In case of potential ethic and malpractice issues where the Director of the Journal feels he/she needs to be advised, he/she should consult the Advisory board or seek the advice and approval of the founders of the CmY association.
Access to Journal content
nCmY is an exclusively electronic publication. The journal provides full and open access to its content in a PDF version, free and without registration. The Journal guarantees long-term archiving.
The decision must always be based on the articles’ importance, originality, validity, clarity, its relevance to the Journal’ scope and the Reviewers’ comments without regard to the Authors’ race, gender, sexual orientation, ethnic origin, citizenship, religious belief, political philosophy or institutional affiliation. The Journal’s Director may consult with other Editors or Reviewers in making the decision.
